Machinery Safety is a difficult area to carry out training for. In an ideal world, any course would be based around a machine in a realistic environment so that delegates could inspect and assess the machine as part of the training. It's not practical to put a machine into a training room, nor is it safe to troop a course of delegates into the production environment to look at machines. So how do you carry out effective training for machinery safety?
Several years ago, Laidler Associates produced a virtual machine, which could be inserted into Powerpoint to provide an interactive training session. Whilst this still works very well, Laidler decided that it was time to improve this method and so a full redevelopment project began.
The new system goes a step further than the original machine in that it is a true virtual reality package in that the user can 'walk' around the machine looking at all aspects of the machine. Laidler have put together a list of common hazards, which will be built into the machine for delegates to find as part of the training day. Once assessed, the hazards will be corrected. The end result is a very practical introduction to carrying out machinery safety risk assessment. This package will be incorporated into a days training which will also include overviews of relevant legislation and standards. The practical application of safety products will also form part of the day.
Attendance at an Interactive safety Workshop is an excellent way of finding out about current and future legislation and guidelines as well as discovering the best safety solutions on the market.
Each workshop costs just £150 (ex VAT) per head which, when compared to the downtime of a machine is very cost effective. Consider the human cost and you'll wonder why you haven't attended one before.
Who should attend?
- Mechanical or electrical engineers involved in specification, design, maintenance or modification of machinery.
- Managers responsible for production, maintenance or design of factory equipment.
- Anyone else connected with machinery safety - it is everyone's responsibility after all!
The workshop is designed to be practical, showing not only the problems associated with machinery safety, but also providing reasonable, cost effective solutions.
