Justifying any business expense can be difficult and the potential costs of implementing health and safety policies and procedures is no different. It's always good when examples are given back that show, not only how effective a project has been, but also the benefit that the client has gained from it.

Laidler's ergonomics expert has been working with a 1st Tier automotive manufacturer for over four years. The work has involved writing a safety management system (which gained OHSAS 18001) and providing ergonomics surveys. In the Four Years August 1999 to Dec 2003 the company did the following...

  1. Reduced its 1st Aid Injuries by 56%
  2. Reduced its lost time accidents by 75%
  3. Achieved a 98% reduction in the number of new claims per year
  4. Initial Claim values have been reduced by 99.5%
  5. 18 claims worth £495,000 were placed against the firm in the four years. £0 has been awarded in successfully defending 13 claims that have made it to court tribunal
  6. Of the 13, 11 used our ergonomics surveys in evidence of the successful defence.

The above savings far out weigh the cost of using an ergonomics specialist so as we said, ergonomics works!
